“Capturing Light - interpreting values and shapes”

March 7 - 9, 2023

Tucson Pastel Society Art Center

2447 N. Los Altos

Desmond O’Hagan is an award-winning professional artist painting in pastels and oils who has exhibited nationally and internationally. He is listed in Who’s Who in American Art, is a Master Pastelist with the Pastel Society of America, and has achieved Eminent Pastelist status with the International Association of Pastel Societies. His art has been featured in numerous national and international magazines and books.

This workshop is designed to help you see your subjects in a new light and paint with minimal strokes in refining shapes and edges with pastels or oils. Desmond works with participants individually to critique and offer new directions in completing their paintings. A primary goal of this workshop is to gently move participants out of their comfort zone to explore new techniques and methods to achieve the next level in their painting process. Lastly, this workshop is designed to loosen your paint strokes and avoid excessive detail in creating a more unique piece of art. Participants can work either in pastels or oils, or both.

The workshop will include a digital slide presentation of Desmond’s pastel and oil paintings which includes step-by-step images of paintings in progress. Morning lectures will highlight a variety of topics including composition, color, painting techniques, self-critiquing, framing, photographing people for painting reference, and the business side of art. Daily demos.
