Show Juror:

Jen Evenhus, PSA-MP, NPS-DP, IAPS-MC, PSWC
Picture

Jennifer Evenhus is a nationally acclaimed artist, holding the prestigious titles of Master Pastelist in the Pastel Society of America and Distinguished Pastelist in the Northwest Pastel Society. Jen is also a signature member of the Pastel Society of the West Coast, and the American Impressionist Society.

As a Master Circle Member of IAPS (International Association of Pastel Societies), she has solidified her position as an accomplished artist. Jennifer’s recognition stems from her active involvement in professional associations, dedicated special studies, and a noteworthy presence in numerous international exhibitions, earning her well-deserved accolades and many awards. See below for more details.

Jennifer is a nationally recognized, award winning artist. Her bold use of color is what first attracts the eye. Her subject is often paint itself, fascinated with the painterly effects one can achieve with pastels, or the wonderful transparency and opacity of oils.

Jen discovers magic in her subjects with simplification and exaggeration, using her trademark style “the beauty of imperfection,” revealing the soul of the subject with a unique, bold sense of color and design. Her work is contemporary with abstract leanings, creating in both pastel and oils.  Jennifer's work is often very abstract, using earthscapes (small areas of the landscape) as a starting point, she paints out most of the detail, leaving just enough for the viewer to journey into a new world.

My aim is to capture the essence of a time and place. This is through the freedom of his mark making. The joy of this medium for me is in its immediacy. With no need to mix colours on a palette or wait for certain areas to dry, I work on my surfaces with an intuitive speed and confidence. The resulting compositions have a robust, awe inspiring quality that itry to capture the viewer’s attention." My passion will always be the landscape, it is why I became an artist. I want to share my vision of the world I see. Colour and light is my motivation for choosing a subject. The light sparkling on the water, the colour reflected in the landscape. I favour the early morning or late afternoon to capture these effects. My art is simply a collection of moments. I think an artist has to allow his surroundings to reveal itself,  before the artist can reveal their vision of the way they see the world onto others.
